I always tell myself "drink only local grapes, there is a reason why they grow in that place and not elsewhere". I broke my rule and —surprise, surprise— I was disappointed. It may be that it needs time (Casa Castillo is a truly excellent producer), but this Syrah was disjointed, with the harsh tannins swamping the fruit. At least the variety is recognisable, but I'll stick to Casa Castillo's Monastrell and Garnacha.

Excelente combinación de syrah y roussanne. Imprescindible. Fresco, aromático y envolvente. Apto para carne y pescado. Nada que ver con los syrah mediterráneos.
Sorprendente vino que rezuma frescura y proporciona un fuerte golpe de fruta. Con vinos así, tan agradables, se hace el camino más llevadero.

Casa Castillo was founded in 1941, when Don José Sánchez-Cerezo acquired the estate with the aim of exploiting the rosemary of the mount. Inside the same property was an old winery that, in 1985, the second generation of the family decided to restart.
