The wine

This is the first of the wines from the Belondrade winery, and one of the best white wines in Spain. A mature, elegant white wine inspired by the Burgundy whites, that has in fact surpassed all expectations when it comes to quality from the Verdejo, the indigenous grape varietal of Castile. The wine has also undergone diligent ageing in oak of the highest quality and will continue to develop most favourably in the bottle for a further seven to eight years.

NOTE: Best decanted and served not overly cold, between 10º and 12º C.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The 2021 Belondrade y Lurton is showing superb, pure, crystalline, clean, pure and expressive, delicate, elegant and subtle. The oak feels perfectly integrated despite being a very young wine. It has notes of white flowers, orange peel, hints of peach and dry hay and is quite varietal, with a faint bitter twist on the finish that, to me, is a textbook descriptor of the Verdejos from yesteryear. It has 13.8% alcohol and a pH of 3.8. 102,023 bottles, 2,533 magnums and some larger formats produced. It was bottled in July 2022.

Belondrade

The Belondrade winery was founded in 1994 by Didier Belondrade, a Frenchman who became enamoured with Spain. His objective was to produce an excellent white wine inspired by the great Burgundy whites, using Rueda’s traditional grape variety, the Verdejo. For several years he worked in rented premises in Nava del Rey, until he was able to open the doors of his new winery in 2000, situated on the actual estate on the outskirts of La Seca. The winery was designed by the French...
