Wine Perelada 5 Fincas Reserva 2017
Perelada 5 Fincas Reserva is a complex wine expressing the features of the different micro-climates, soils and grape varieties found in Empordà, a small wine appellation in north-east Catalonia, which stretches as far as the border with France. The Castillo de Perelada winery owns five estates here with a variety of soil types which ensure this Reserva is rich in nuances. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes thrive in the sand and silt soils of Pont de Molins; the gravel soils of La Garriga are home to their Grenache, Carignan and Syrah grapes; more Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache is sourced from the slate landscapes in the Finca Espolla estate; red clay in Finca Malaveïna produces wonderful Grenache, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot; and last, but not least, more Merlot and Grenache is collected from the spectacular Finca Garbet plot.
After a long maceration process, Perelada 5 Fincas Reserva ages in French and American oak for 18 months. Finally, after a time in the bottle to refine the wine, it reaches wine-lovers with an intense cherry red colour and splendid aromas of red fruit and spices, backed up by soothing herbal notes over a toasted background. Fresh, structured and balanced in the mouth, it also has a well-integrated and measured tannicity. A wine displaying an amazing personality and a wonderfully long after-taste.

One of my favourite Emporda wines.
I have been drinking Peralada 5 Fincas for many vintages and none of them have ever disappointed. Full bodied with lots of fruit and long on the pallet. Very good value from a very good producer. Will buy again.by: Adrian Coyle (22/04/2018) - Vintage 2014
