There are wineries that earn respect in silence, vintage after vintage, without gimmicks or speeches. Casa Castillo is one of them. From the high plateau of Jumilla, where Monastrell grows facing the sun and limestone, they have built a way of understanding wine that is now a reference worldwide. And this year comes one of those confirmations that matter:

In the 2023 vintage, it has just received 94 Parker points.

Because La Tendida is not just another red: it is the portrait of the best calcareous soils of the estate, selected in an area of gentle slopes and harsh climate, where the vine struggles, ripens slowly, and delivers fruit with singular depth.

Is made with Monastrell and Garnacha—although in the 2023 vintage it was impossible to add the latter—hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts in underground lagares. From there it goes to 5,000 and 500-liter fudres, where it rests for 12 to 14 months until it finds that balance so defining of the house.

A perfect occasion to discover—or rediscover—one of the most solid Mediterranean reds in the country. A wine that has conquered critics but still costs what honest wines cost.
