Red Wine Regions

Spain, France and Italy are home to the world's most celebrated red wine regions, and it's where we focus our selection. In Spain, Rioja, Ribera del Duero and Priorat lead the way; in Italy, Piedmont's Barolo and Tuscany's Chianti and Bolgheri set the standard; in France, Bordeaux and Burgundy remain the benchmark for the rest of the world. New World countries such as the United States, Australia, Argentina and Chile also produce excellent reds, but our catalogue is built around Old Europe's depth and diversity.

When choosing a red wine, its origin and denomination can tell you a lot: wines from warmer climates tend to be more robust, while those from cooler regions are more fragrant and delicate.

Red Wine Grapes

Some of the most popular red grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Malbec, Nebbiolo, Grenache (Garnacha) and Merlot. Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah are usually associated with fairly powerful wines, while Pinot Noir and Nebbiolo tend to be more delicate and perfumed.

In our catalogue, Tempranillo and Garnacha take centre stage: Spain's signature grapes, behind everything from light, fruity young wines to complex Gran Reservas with decades of ageing potential.
