The wine

In the short time since it was set up, Viña Zorzal has become one of the reference wineries in Navarre. In fact, it has taken just over a quarter of a century for the colourful bird on their wine labels to become an unmistakeable symbol of quality wines. What is behind Viña Zorzal's success? An excellent knowledge of each of their vineyards allows them to get the very best results from their fruit and produce a wonderful range of great wines. And Viña Zorzal Garnacha is undoubtedly a splendid example of their work.

A wine offering a firm expression of the honesty and freshness of its terroir as well as a strong commitment to ecological principles and the utmost respect for the environment. Low yields are harvested early to conserve the fruit’s freshness and then undergo a spontaneous fermentation process with local yeasts. The finished wine is bottled with the least intervention possible, just a simple clarification and filtering. All in all, it is a faithful reflection of a terroir and a vintage.

What does this wine taste like?

Viña Zorzal Garnacha displays a bright, medium-intensity ruby red colour in the glass. It delights us with the clear and concentrated aromas of wild fruit, spices and dust it obtains purely from the qualities the grapes and vineyard deliver as the wine is not fermented or aged in wood. Dry and fresh in the mouth, with smooth tannins and a medium body, it is a mineral wine with a lingering finish. It maintains the primary freshness and acidity of its grapes thanks to the use of whole bunches of grapes with their stems during the vinification, especially in dry years. Although it is the basic starter red wine in the winery's collection, its unquestionable quality offers an amazing value for money. A splendidly juicy wine packed with flavour which seems to get better and better with every vintage. Fortunately, about 137,000 bottles are made every year!

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The incredibly young and juicy 2020 Garnacha was produced with grapes from different villages, Corella, Cintruénigo, Fitero and Lerga, hence a regional blend that for the first time contains grapes from the cooler Lerga that adds lower pH, more freshness and complexity to the blend. They do a soft extraction in stainless steel using 20% full clusters and indigenous yeasts, achieving a wine with moderate alcohol (13.47%) and good freshness (pH 3.47). I felt like the wine had gone one step up in complexity and depth from the previous vintage; it's precise, harmonious, elegant and nuanced and keeps varietal purity. It's medium-bodied and has very fine tannins with herbal freshness, reminiscent of acid berries and bay leaf. This is a steal! One to buy by the case... 137,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2021.

Viña Zorzal

Within a very short time, Viña Zorzal has become an absolute benchmark among Navarra wines. The bird on its labels is a symbol which we unquestionably associate with excellent quality wines originating from the Navarra DO, and also from the Rioja DOQ, under the name of el El Inquilino.
