Back in 1989 Antonio Sanz finally fulfilled his dream of creating his own wines in Navarre after a long career working in the world of wine production. Years later, in 2007, his sons continued his dream by setting up the Viña Zorzal winery based on their father's philosophy of taking the utmost care of vines in order to make excellent wines. Viña Zorzal Wines, dedicated to producing wines in the DO Navarra and DOC Rioja regions, was born with the priority of recovering local, yet unjustly ignored, Navarre grape varieties and create single-variety wines valued for their authenticity and simplicity, wines which speak for themselves, yet are affordable for all.
In the first years of the new winery, the Sanz brothers' work with Graciano grapes soon took off and their wine received praise from top critics. Their next project was based on Grenache, a historic variety in Navarre. They discovered a treasure nearby – old, abandoned Grenache vines in a plot of land in Fitero between the Ebro Valley and the Iberian System mountains. This led the team to focus on terroirs, producing single-vineyard wines to bring out the typicity of these special lands. Ever since then Viña Zorzal has grown and grown, gaining praise for a range of excellent wines, as they reach for the sky like the birds on their wonderfully-designed labels.
