Details for El Puntido 2016
Bottle size and vintage
Part of the Eguren family’s Viñedos de Páganos estate in Rioja Alavesa, the El Puntido vineyard was planted over 35 years ago in mineral-rich, calcareous-clay soils, with vines covering 25 hectares at an altitude of 600m. First released in 2001, this wine has become a new classic, distinctly modern in style and paving the way for the other famous name associated with this winery: La Nieta. The harvesting of healthy, ripe grapes is carried out manually, with a further rigorous selection of clusters and berries at the sorting table. Malolactic fermentation takes place in new French oak Bordelaise barrels, with the wine remaining on its lees for the first four months, before spending 18 months in new French oak.
This is a concentrated and intense 100% Tempranillo wine, deep cherry red in colour, with noticeable mineral aromas on the complex nose of fresh ripe fruit and well-integrated oak. While on the palate, toasty and mineral hints mingle with flavoursome fruit, showing a good balance, a powerful structure and fine expression.
- Optimum serving temperature:Between 16ºC and 18ºC
Uno de mis preferidos y pruebo muchos vinos. Es como si tomaras un vino tinto del doble o triple del precio que pagas. Nunca defrauda, limpio, aromatico, potente, dulce, delicado... Una pasada.by: Le Dame de Montrose 2012 (25/03/2019) - Vintage 2015
Quality modern Rioja crianza
Blackberries, plums, floral elements and herbs on nose. Quite smooth acidity and rounded tannins on palate. Medium plus bodied and medium fruity finish. Structured and balanced texture but not this high altitude crianzas best vintage. And needs more cellaringtime. To my mouthfeel vintages 2004-5 and 2011 have been slighly better. Paired well with peppery steak.by: Guy (28/12/2017) - Vintage 2014
Great modern Rioja
We already drunk older vintages as 2009, 2010 and 2012 and were very positive surprised by 2014. Already great to drink now while the previous years needed a few years to come open. The Puntido has a great nose and quite unique mouthfeel - full bodied but still very balanced - not yet found in other Rioja’s and with superb mineral aftertaste. One really need to try the wines of this great domain.by: Daniel Vázquez Blanco (28/02/2018) - Vintage 2014
Un descubrimiento para mi
Excelente vino, muy equilibrado, potente en nariz y equilibrado. Lo seguíré comprando cuando me lo permita el bolsillo. A beberloby: Josua (14/11/2017) - Vintage 2013
Los nuevos rioja
Excelente vino con un sabor limpio y suave en boca pero con la complejidad de una elaboración muy cuidada de un gran bodega
Viñedos de Páganos
The Eguren family has historical connections with wine-making dating back to 1870 and now five generations have been intrinsically involved with vine cultivation in La Rioja. Expert knowledge has been accrued then passed on, with technological advances in production warmly accepted but without totally superseding traditional ideas that are based on an overriding respect for the soil and the vine. This is a contemporary-styled winery in the medieval town of Laguardia, and hom...
