Details for Montecastro 2016
Bottle size and vintage
Montecastro wines, whose origins date back to 2000, have been produced since 2012 by the technical team at Hacienda Monasterio, one of the most successful groups in the field of modern wines from Ribera del Duero. Hacienda Monasterio became the chief shareholder of the Montecastro winery in 2012 and is in charge of the technical management of its new wines with the expertise of Carlos de la Fuente (assistant manager of Hacienda Monasterio and Peter Sisseck's right-hand man).
Montecastro is a fresher and less dense wine than earlier vintages, made now almost exclusively with Tempranillo grapes and 5% of Cabernet Sauvignon from a variety of plots spread among the 27 hectares of vines the winery owns. Aged for 17 months in new and second-year used French oak barrels, the final result is a very complete and balanced wine with a very intense red fruit, notes of forest undergrowth, and a mineral background. A new style of wine designed by Hacienda Monasterio to make the most of the possibilities of these exceptional vineyards planted at heights of between 860 and 930 metres. An elegant and balanced wine, fresh and delicate with good ageing potential. In a nutshell, a wonderful Ribera del Duero wine.

Quality Ribera del Duero
Very enjoyable Ribera wine, the addition of Merlot is well balanced for my palate, will buy more in due courseby: Nacho Zaballos (16/10/2019) - Vintage 2015
Very good, better than 4 stars
You can't give 4.5 stars and Montecastro definitely deserves more than 4 stars. Lovely Tempranillo tempered with some merlot. I will be ordering some more of this soon.by: Tim V (16/08/2018) - Vintage 2014
Excellent, smooth, great value
Have always felt Montecastro represents excellent value for money - exceptionally drinkable, a great accompaniment to roast lamb, a perfect blend of the two grapes. Would highly recommend. As ever - worth decanting a good while before drinking.by: alfonsonorte (14/08/2019) - Vintage 2014
Montecastro came into being in the year 2000, resulting from the passion of friends who turned their dream into reality: producing a quality wine straight from the heart of the Ribera del Duero. With this idea taking root, in 2002 they planted 27 ha of vineyards and built a modern winery in perfect harmony with the natural environment, designed by the architect Roberto Valle. At the beginning, the project relied upon the invaluable advice of the French winemaker, Bertrand Erh...
