The Dominio de Atauta wines are decidedly different Riberas, boasting their own particular elegance and aromatic complexity. Their location in the far east of the denomination, in the province of Soria, at an altitude of almost 1,000 metres, where the harshness of winter is intense and long-lasting, is surely a reason for this; but figuring too are the characteristics of the vineyards, with very old, pre-phylloxera vines, and the winery's form of viticulture and production procedures, faithfully adhering to biodynamic methods.
Dominio de Atauta, without mention of any other name, is their most representative wine, fruit of a selection of grapes from numerous micro-parcels. It picks up the aromas of this landscape, extremely austere and virtually abandoned nowadays, but in times past it must have been magnificent. Surprisingly, it's usually the poorest places that give rise to the richest, most astounding wines.
You will find this a wine with intense aromas of red and black fruits, aromatic herbs (lavender, rosemary and camomile), spicy, toasty and smoky notes... It is an elegant wine, yet powerful too, and notably tannic while young. Consequently, there is no rush to open it, but let it mature; old vines don't understand the need for haste. A wine to cellar.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker
There's a little more concentration, tannin and rusticity in the 2019 Dominio de Atauta, reflecting the conditions of a warmer and drier year. This selection matured for 16 months in French oak barrels, 15% of them new, followed by a couple of months in oak vats to let the wine settle before being bottled. 45,528 bottles and 900 magnums produced. It was bottled in September 2021.
Very good, smooth but frankly won’t repeat.. perhaps another vintage

The winery
Dominio de Atauta
The Dominio de Atauta winery is located in the Atauta valley in the province of Soria in central Spain. They own 21 hectares of vines and supervise another 22, meaning they manage around 600 plots altogether at altitudes of over 1000 metres. The winery's goal is to demonstrate the full potential of their pre-phylloxera Tinto Fino vines with ages ranging between 85 and 150 years old. The Atauta valley has a history of over 500 years of winemaking in extremely severe conditions,...
