The wine

In the history of the Iberian Peninsula, there are names that resonate like a sharp blow against time. One of them is Alfonso I, "El Batallador", king of Aragon and Navarre, an indomitable figure of the 12th century whose influence spread across territories that today form part of the Ribera del Duero's cultural landscape. His nickname spoke not just of conquests: it spoke of character, determination, and that way of advancing that leaves a mark.

With that spirit, Batallador is born from Palacio de Villachica. A Ribera del Duero Tempranillo that honors its name: an intense, decisive, and vibrant wine, crafted with the same tenacity used to cultivate a vineyard in a changing and demanding climate.

From Gumiel de Mercado, Vi Batallador is made with 100% Tinta Fina, hand-harvested and rigorously selected. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, while malolactic fermentation develops in concrete tanks—a technique that brings purity and fine texture. Then, it spends 10 months in French and American oak barrels, just enough to gain complexity without losing the fruit's energy.
