The wine

Ever since it was first produced in 2009, Antídoto has grown and grown in popularity. An excellent red wine from Soria, it is made with grapes from a mosaic of 500 plots of old vines planted mainly on pebble-covered terraces in the town of Soto de San Esteban. Here, in the far east of Ribera de Duero, the Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) variety produces very low yields averaging just over 3,000 kg per hectare, but with an exceptional quality.

Vineyards are between 30 and 100 years old and grow at altitudes of almost a thousand meters above sea level in a variety of pebble-strewn sandy, chalky and clay soils. Grapes are collected by hand in small crates and the whole winegrowing process follows organic agricultural methods. The grapes macerate for 6 days in the winery and after finishing fermentation the wine is left to age for 12 months in large used French oak vats so as to respect the expressiveness of the fruit which has been so painstakingly cultivated and cared for.

A fleshy wine with smoky and floral fragrances, Antídoto has been compared to Syrah wines from the Northern Rhône region. It is a juicy, balanced and very rounded wine with delicious aromas of ripe plums, fine and chalky tannins and a long dry finish. It offers a guaranteed quality year after year and while being perfectly accessible for all wine-lovers it also displays a stunning complexity to impress more demanding enthusiasts. The oak is well-integrated and adds spicy notes to an already aromatic final product. It is smooth and polished on the palate with just enough acidity to add style to its reasonably strong body.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The 2019 Antídoto fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in 600-liter French oak barrels, 15% of them new, for ten to 12 months. It's a tight and powerful vintage, ripe and with abundant tannins and without the spark I found in the 2020. After some time in the glass, the wine developed some floral aromas, but the palate remained more austere. This needs powerful food. 110,000 bottles produced.
