Barco del Corneta Las Envidias

I love the nose of the 2019 Parajes Del Infierno Las Envidias, a wine that used to be called Bruto. It is mostly Palomino (but also some Verdejo) from ancient ungrafted vines planted on sandy soils in the village of Alcazarén that they have been slowly recovering since 2013. It fermented in 300-liter barrels and one Sherry cask with indigenous yeasts and aged under a veil of yeasts for 18 months. There's some volatility, hints of nuts and varnish and a spicy twist. The palate is medium-bodied with 13% alcohol and good freshness and balance and some chalkiness in the finish. Only 620 bottles were filled in June 2021.
