Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The ripe and heady 2011 Torralvo Gran Reserva, faithful to the warm and dry conditions of the year, is the first Gran Reserva ever to be bottled at Vizcarra Ramos to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the 'bodega'. It has the Gran Reserva character, but I'd love to see this wine in a cooler year. They say they will only release this wine in 'singular' vintages. 2011 is certainly 'singular'. This is ripe and heady, warmer than the rest of the wines I saw here, with higher alcohol and earthy and ripe fruit aromas intermixed with notes of sweet spices. It matured in 225- and 228-liter oak barrels for 30 months. It's powerful and with abundant tannins, and it will require time in bottle and/or powerful food. 2,05 bottles produced.

Juan Carlos Vizcarra Ramos is the owner and winemaker of this winery, run by a family with strong wine-growing roots, whose vineyards are spread out over various individual plots of land lying within the Burgos municipalities of Mambrilla de Castrejón and Roa de Duero (namely, La Ambuena, El Oro, Las Arras, Tras de San Pedro, Senda del Oro and the oldest ones: Los Barriles and Carrascal). The grapes, of the Tinta del País variety, undoubtedly enjoy excellent growing conditions...
