Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker and Jancis Robinson

The 2020 Las Alas de Frontonio La Tejera wants to be a light and fresh Garnacha that combines the character from the soils with attractive aromas of aromatic herbs. It's the result of fermenting the full clusters of an old plot on slate, clay and quartzite soils in concrete with selected yeasts and then matured in foudre for 14 months. It has moderate ripeness and alcohol (13.5%) while retaining good freshness and acidity. It has flowers (dry rose petals), citrus and tons of aromatic and Mediterranean herbs. It's a little rounder than the 2021 I tasted next to it (a constant when comparing the 2020s with 2021s), with rounder tannins and a gentler mouthfeel. 4,531 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2022.

Gentle, sweet, rose-scented nose and a much less austere palate than La Cerqueta. A real charmer. Delicate with masses of personality and integrity. Very clean and appetising. Sappy and lively. Relatively light bodied.

Bodegas Frontonio

Bodegas Frontonio is named after Saint Frontonio, patron saint of the north-eastern Spanish town of Epila. Legend says that after Saint Frontonio was beheaded by the Romans, his body was buried in a cemetery and his head cast into the River Ebro. Miraculously his head was found upstream on the bank of the River Jalon, close to where the Bodegas Frontonio winery is located. Exactly as they're presented, they're the wine of a particular land, the résumé of a landscape. A passion...
