Review
The Izadi winery has become one of the most well-established cellars in the Rioja region, recognised internationally for its vast collection of old vineyards, its involvement with gastronomy, and for its name becoming a brand with soul.
As evidence of this excellence, the winery offers us this authentic gift from the privileged natural setting of its Rioja Alavesa vineyards. The El Regalo (literally meaning the gift) wine is the iconic favourite of the cellar. Produced with fruit from a special estate, the Finca El Regalo, the grapes are selected from the best plots the cellar owns in Villabuena — vineyards with an average age of sixty years. The selection combines very small amounts of Graciano, Carignan, and Grenache grapes together with the Tempranillo grape which makes up 90% of the coupage. This is then divided equally between new casks and stainless steel tanks and undergoes a malolactic fermentation before being stood to age for twenty months in new and one-year-old French oak barrels.
An intense ruby red with coloured legs, and a complexity of aromas with notes of red fruit working together with fine wood and smoky aromas, makes this an excellent wine. In the mouth it is pleasant and velvety with a structured taste and long lingering finish which is bound to satisfy even the most demanding palates.

Bodegas Izadi

In 1987, Gonzalo Antón, in conjunction with a group of friends and business associates from Vitoria, decided to set up an innovative project in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa. Thus Bodegas Izadi came into being, situated in the triangle formed by the towns of Villabuena, Samaniego and Ábalos, the triangular motif on its labels, and with the clear objective of giving maximum expression to the fruit of that particular location, that natural environment so well-loved (Izadi mean...
