New Parker ratings: Balearic Islands, south-east and central Spain

Bonicaire, Callet, Fogoneu, Forcallat... A new and promising boost for local varieties!

The Wine Advocate critic Luis Gutiérrez, who specializes in wines from Spain, Chile and Argentina, has visited the Mediterranean Spain (south-east coast and Balearic Islands) and central Spain, one of the largest areas of vineyards in the world.

Traditionally these areas have not made the most of their potential. The idea of concentrating on quality rather than quantity has only recently started to take hold and is still not the most popular philosophy. But it looks like things are changing. Year by year, wineries are starting to focus on local varieties and clearly aiming to produce quality wines. This is happening not only with the Bobal, Grenache and Monastrell varieties, but also with lesser known ones such as: Bonicaire (Trepat), Callet, Fogoneu, Forcallat (Airén), Alicante Bouschet, Gorgollassa, Moravia Agria... The future looks bright, a sensation confirmed with the new ratings from Robert Parker Wine Advocate. Enjoy our selection of wines — a chance to fall in love with local varieties!
