Raúl Pérez is particularly well-known for his attentiveness, for his projects to recuperate vineyards and indigenous varietals, for introducing new production methods… and also, unfortunately, for the few bottles that actually come onto the market. They are like little gems, hard to come by.
Nevertheless, it is worth remembering that he is an oenologist who makes himself available to his friends and someone who has always collaborated with other wineries and continues to do so. One of these is his family-run winery, Castro Ventosa, where he started out on the wine-making route and which he has always worked with in an advisory capacity. The wines from El Castro de Valtuille or Valtuille, such as this young Mencía, provide an excellent opportunity to get to know Raúl’s fine work.
Castro Ventosa Mencía is a wine from this last year, undergoing a similar production process to El Castro de Valtuille Joven, although without that subtle touch of oak (part of Castro Joven is aged in large wooden vats).
