The wine

One of the most distinctive varieties of Spanish viticulture finds a fresh, spicy and personality-filled expression here. A red wine that champions the character of Prieto Picudo and the identity of Tierra de León.

The Raíces collection was created with the purpose of highlighting some of Spain’s most interesting native varieties. On this occasion, the protagonist is Prieto Picudo, a historic grape from the León area whose name comes from the distinctive shape of its clusters: compact, elongated and tapering to a point. Although its presence is concentrated mainly in the Valdevimbre, Los Oteros and River Cea areas, it remains one of the most original varieties in Spain’s winegrowing heritage.

The wine is made by winemaker Rubén Magallanes, with the aim of revealing the variety’s most authentic profile: freshness, acidity, fruit and an appealing spicy character.

Raíces Ibéricas - Master Winemakers

Master Winemakers was founded by Mark Schiettekat in 2000 from the, at the time, a novel idea of making wines tailored to consumers' wishes to control all aspects of the wine, from grape varieties to the final product, including design and pre-set pricing, in consultation with customers; to work with indigenous grape varieties in their terroirs of origin; and not to exclude the most peculiar blends, even if they don't follow the rules, because creativity should never be truncated....
