Details for Mineral del Montsant 2018
Review
The Mineral del Montsant is a fruity and juicy wine like all the Cara Nord Celler wines, and balanced and round like all Montsant wines. Made with fruit from 40-year-old bush vines, the main grape in its blend is Carignan, softened by the sweetness of Grenache.
Irregular terrains, sustainable agriculture and a dry climate ensure the grapes reach an excellent level of quality. Chalky and red clay soils with a certain degree of influence from the continental climate give character to every single bunch of grapes. The grapes, fruit of a year's hard work, are respected in the production process thanks to a careful ageing in wood.
A bright red colour with a seductive nose of cherries, vanilla and white pepper. Aromas of scrubland and black fruit skins over a mineral background give way to more delicate floral hints which appear over time. Flavoursome and fresh from the very first sip, it is an enveloping wine with a saline touch. Spongy and airy thanks to abundant but clear tannins, it has enough acidity to counterbalance the fine taste of liqueur, while the wood adds hints of smoke and ash which create a suggestive and well-balanced wine. A powerful and elegant wine with lactic sensations appearing as it stands in the glass as well as flavours of red fruit jam adorned with cinnamon and black pepper. A subtle and balanced finish, with graphite minerality and toasted coffee-like hints from its time spent in the barrel.
