The wine

Mariano García is one of the accepted authorities in the world of wine in Spain. After spending 30 years as technical director of Bodegas Vega, he decided to set up independently in 1998 in order to work full time on his own personal projects. It is some time ago since the first of these, Bodegas Mauro, consolidated its position as one of the finest wineries in Castile-Leon, putting its efforts into the "moderate-scale" production of top quality wines. Mauro exemplifies to perfection the strength and intrinsic nature of Castilian reds. Its fine performance as a wine for laying down, along with its powerfulness and elegance, single it out as an excellent choice - an essential addition to every wine cellar.

NOTE: Decanting is recommended an hour before serving.

Aged for 15 months in French and American oak barrels.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

2019 was a mild and dry year with 20% less rain than 2018. The 2019 Mauro was selected from their 90 hectares of organically farmed vineyards and fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts. It is mostly Tempranillo with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah that adds freshness and floral aromas. It's a lighter and more approachable vintage than 2018, a more immediate wine, more approachable but in a way less complex. 300,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2021 after 15 months in French and American oak barrels and foudres.

The winery

Bodegas Mauro

Bodegas Mauro is the first family-run winery under Mariano García to lie in Castile-Leon (Maurodos falls within the Toro denomination) and is named in honour of his father, Mauro García. Founded in 1980, two years before the Ribera del Duero D.O. was established, Bodegas Mauro was excluded from the Denomination of Origin for strictly adhered to reasons of geographical delineation at the time it was set up, when historical arguments for the inclusion of the Tudela de Duero...
