The wine

With a more accessible profile than the grandiose Pingus, Flor de Pingus comes forward as a very interesting option for discovering why the wines of Peter Sisseck have caused such a stir on the wine-making scene, year after year reaching prices beyond the reach of all but a few.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker and Parker

The bottled 2022 Flor de Pingus has purity and is open, expressive and pretty. There's probably 3% Garnacha here, and the aim is to achieve perhaps 5% with the new plantings. Garnacha in the same soils, rootstock and everything always has a lower pH than Tempranillo. Garnacha also has less tannin, so it helps to soften the tannic sensation from Tempranillo. It matured in French oak barrels, 20% of them new, because he believes the new vines benefit from the new barrels; this also allows the barrels to get ready for the next vintage of Pingus. This is clean and aromatic, with a balanced and tender palate; it's juicy and fine-boned, with very fine, elegant tannins and some grip. It's a very pretty version of Flor. They produced 98,000 bottles. It was bottled in late June 2024.

I love the 2021 Flor de Pingus, a more ethereal vintage that is very harmonious. A co-fermentation of some 3% Garnacha with Tempranillo, it's an elegant wine in the style of 2018 and 2016, subtle and very balanced, with elegant tannins that give it very good silkiness. It is focused and fresh and has a sense of harmony and very integrated oak. There will be 104,000 bottles to be bottled around June 2023.
