The wine

The 2011 vintage concludes an important stage at Joan d'Anguera, while the 2012 marks the official start of their course along the biodynamic route. We say 'official', because the 2012 vintage is the first to hold organic and biodynamic certification (Demeter), resulting in a new presentation and new labels, but we all know this type of landmark event doesn't happen overnight. The D'Anguera family are honourable people, hard-working and courageous, who love their land and have worked right from the start in a way that has shown great respect for the environment, learning day by day from nature and endeavouring to make their wines a faithful reflection of the vineyards and the countryside surrounding them.

Bugader has always been their top wine, an excellent Syrah. Joan d'Anguera was among the first to plant this variety in Spain and his family know it well. It has adapted perfectly to the locality and specifically to the El Bugader vineyard estate, one of the winery's oldest, a parcel located in a mountainous area, with a compact and well-drained soil, land that has steep slopes facing north. This is where Bugader begins life, made almost totally from the Syrah variety, with a small complement of Garnacha, and aged in new French oak barrels for 14 months. A profound and generous wine, with plenty of ripe fruit and spicy notes, flavoursome, powerful, meaty, warm and with marked minerality.

Celler Joan d'Anguera

The Celler Joan d'Anguera owes its good name to the important figure of Josep Anguera, whose intuition led him to make a red that was young and fresh (his famous young wine); he was also a pioneer in the planting of international varieties such as Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon in the Montsant region's highest parts. After his death, his sons Joan and Josep carried on with the work, even more successfully. Sincere, steadfast and, like their father, with viticulture in the...
