Celler Joan d'Anguera

The Celler Joan d'Anguera owes its good name to the important figure of Josep Anguera, whose intuition led him to make a red that was young and fresh (his famous young wine); he was also a pioneer in the planting of international varieties such as Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon in the Montsant region's highest parts.

After his death, his sons Joan and Josep carried on with the work, even more successfully. Sincere, steadfast and, like their father, with viticulture in the blood, they are today the ones responsible for running the vineyards and making the wines.

With the 2012 vintage, the winery gained organic and biodynamic Demeter certification and a new stage began. Although they have always been very environmentally friendly and have worked with the aim of letting the vineyards and the land express themselves authentically in all of their wines, with this wholescale and committed conversion to biodynamic methods, they have emphasised their dedication to indigenous varieties (without discarding the Syrah, which has adapted so well to that area) and, among other changes made, they have introduced concrete tanks into the production process and reduced their usage of oak. This has resulted in much purer and more fragrant wines.
