Review
The Il Poggione company was among the first to market Brunello di Montalcino, since the early 1900s it has been one of the founding members of the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium. The main philosophy of the company is to have a great care for the vineyards, since the secret to produce great red wines lies precisely in the careful work in the vineyard. Brunello is the prince of Montalcino wines. It is produced exclusively with Sangiovese grapes from the oldest vineyards of the company. The harvest on the Franceschi estate has always been manual; fermentation is done in steel and aged in large oak barrels for 36 months. Subsequently, the wine spends a period of aging in the bottle, which is essential to guarantee the pleasantness and complexity that have made Brunello di Montalcino famous throughout the world. Il Poggione shows off a wonderful Brunello, with a magnificent classic imprint: a masterpiece to be enjoyed, which represents a certainty of the territory and that never disappoints.
It has a dark and intense ruby red color. A great olfactory impact for this Brunello which generously dispenses notes of small ripe fruits, leather, tobacco, aromatic herbs and very fine spiciness. The taste is really pleasant: velvet tannins caress the palate; we find balance and taste-olfactory correspondence of great consistency. An excellent glass now, an exceptional bottle in a few years. Excellent in combination with sumptuous meat and game dishes; also ideal with aged cheeses.
