One of the greatest classics of Brunello di Montalcino, always distinguished by its typical elegant silkiness. Fruit, incense, tobacco and minerality, a sumptuous wine that has become a true symbol of Montalcino and the Sangiovese variety.
What does this wine taste like?
An extremely elegant Brunello that will enchant us with its fragrance, balance and velvety texture. A wine that exhibits ripe fruit on the nose, leathery and tobacco notes, aromatic herbs and fine spices, and which caresses the palate and our senses. A wine with great balance, consistent on the nose and palate.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker, Jancis Robinson, and Suckling
I've always seen Il Poggione as the benchmark Brunello - it is very, very good and the 2017 vintage, while maybe not as good as the previous years, still stands up.
Ripe red fruit and aromas that improve with 20 minutes in the glass. Decant for added smoothness. Amazing wine should be enjoyed on its own..
Great wine from serious producer.fine to drink now but i put away bottles in the basement for further complexity, Worth waiting for
The usual Brunello stamp of black cherry, black currant and slightly floral. Added with some tobacco and spice in the background.
Very good choice
Comparing to the price this wine is very good pick. It has some sweet fruity aftertaste. We enjoyed it very much with lasagna.
The Brunello is the ace of the Montalcino wines, produced exclusively from grapes of the Sangiovese variety; in this case, picked by hand from the estate’s oldest vines.
Fermentation occurs at a controlled temperature (25-28 °C) in stainless steel tanks and by the action of yeasts from the actual vineyard. The cap remains submerged and malolactic fermentation is also allowed to take place in the same container. Afterwards, the Tenuta Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino is aged in French oak barrels.
After its oak-ageing, the wine is matured in bottle: this is an essential process for guaranteeing the pleasantness and complexity which have made the Brunello di Montalcino become world famous.

Tenuta Il Poggione
Tenuta Il Poggione, now one of the largest wineries in the Montalcino municipality, extends over nearly 600 hectares divided into vineyards (125 ha), olive groves (70 ha), and other agricultural lands and forests. The winery is founded on the care and special attention dedicated to producing fine red wines, but also on being engaged in diversified and environmentally friendly agriculture, in which the vineyard alternates with other crops, and where wild animals are allowed...
