The wine

“La Bota de” is a numbered series of wines from Jerez and Montilla, distinguished by their age and exceptional quality. These are wines of great complexity and finesse, matured in some of the region’s most prestigious bodegas. Run by Jesús Barquín and Eduardo Ojeda, two fervent admirers of distinctive fortified wine, Equipo Navazos carefully selects, reserves and then bottles the successive editions. Dated releases ensure that an outstanding array of the finest sherry is continually available to a growing number of appreciative consumers.

Edition No. 22 of this series comes from the May 2010 release, drawn out of 22 butts of the solera maturing a well-aged Manzanilla in the Sánchez Ayala family’s bodega, located in the old district of la Balsa, in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. This area, by the River Guadalquivir estuary, used to be surrounded by the fast-disappearing ‘navazos’, lands long cultivated by growers due to their high level of moisture. Bota 22 follows on from La Bota de Manzanilla 4, 8 and 16 in this series, and is estimated to be around 6 years old. Along with La Bota de Amontillado 1 and 9, the must comes from Palomino Fino grapes grown in two vineyards on the Pago Balbaína estate, Las Cañas and Viña Soledad.

A most delicate, fresh Manzanilla, with definite personality, and bottled after very slight filtration to preserve its golden tone and authentic nature.

NOTE: Recommended serving in an amply-sized glass. Due to its high quality and with proper cellaring, this Manzanilla will mature perfectly in bottle for a further few years. Ideal as an aperitif and easily accompanies casseroles, any fish and seafood dishes, fried or grilled.

Matured over time in 12 scales or casks, and averaging 6 years old. Drawn out in May 2010.
