González Byass

It was 1835 when the young Manuel María González Ángel began a long career dedicated to the world of wine. He started his career as a merchant, but his business grew so quickly that he soon became involved in production. He did so under the guidance of his maternal uncle, José Ángel, who taught him everything he knew. In his honour, he christened the founding solera "Solera del Tío Pepe", thus initiating the legend of the most famous Fino in the world.

To this legend that crossed borders contributed the shipment of the first Tío Pepe butts to the United Kingdom at the suggestion of Robert Blake Byass, the company's agent in England. The success of their reception led to a partnership between the two businessmen to continue promoting exports.

The first brandy dates back to 1844, but it was in 1951 that what would become the most select González Byass brandy, Lepanto, was launched on the market. The diversification of products did not end with brandies. González Byass expanded its commitment first to Cognac, buying a distillery in France, and then to aniseed, buying Alcoholera de Chinchón in 1969, the first aniseed and liqueur distillery in Spain and the only one with a protected geographical indication.

Today, the González Byass Wine Family includes Tío Pepe (Jerez-Manzanilla), Bodegas Beronia (Rioja and Rueda), Viñas del Vero (Somontano), Cavas Vilarnau (Cava), Finca Constancia (Castilla La Mancha), Finca Moncloa (Cádiz), Pazos de Lusco (Rías Baixas). In 2016, the company made the leap to the New World with the incorporation of the Chilean family winery Veramonte.
