Bodegas Frutos Villar

The Frutos Villar family have roots in the wine industry going back to the turn of the previous century when they had been involved in wine buying and selling. In 1920 they established their first winery in Toro, a region with a long-standing wine-making tradition that may well pre-date the Romans, and specifically where their Bodega Muruve is located. Bodega Calderona, their second winery, was set up in Cigales in 1960 and has 105 hectares of vineyards, producing wines which come under the Calderona brand name.

This all occurred before the demarcation of denominations of origin and afterwards in 1988, the family made a purchase in the Ribera del Duero region, the Bodega Santa Eulalia at La Horra in Burgos province, lying at an altitude of 800 metres and boasting 210 hectares of vineyards. After accumulating considerable expertise over the years, the family has now become well-positioned in several regions where it has made its mark with the Tempranillo variety, otherwise known as Tinta de Toro and Tinto Fino.
