The small town of Prepotto, in the Friuli region, enjoys a mild, balanced climate, shielded from the cold north winds thanks to the Julian Alps, and benefiting from the kindly influence of the Adriatic Sea nearby. It's a region known worldwide for its white wines, however, in Prepotto the star variety of the vineyards is a red grape: the Schioppettino or Ribolla Nera.

The Schioppettino is an ancient vine whose history is closely linked to this land and its inhabitants, as when Prepotto prevented the variety from becoming extinct by disregarding a law passed in 1976 which was prohibiting its cultivation.

Described by the winery itself as the "Pearl of the Colli Orientali" (the Eastern Hills), the Schioppettino of Vigna Petrussa gives rise to a vigorous, varietal wine that encompasses all the essence of the terroir.

In the glass it appears a deep, impenetrable ruby-red colour with purple flecks. With a dark and mysterious, and likewise fascinating nose, Vigna Petrussa Schioppettino emanates aromas of blueberry jam, cyclamen, herbs and undergrowth, sweet spices such as vanilla and cinnamon, and hints of blood. As we said, a fascinating bouquet which offers the chance to delve around and discover new aromas. On the palate it delivers what it promises, and we encounter a wine of great personality which ably counterbalances fruitiness and smoothness, as well as flavour and freshness. A wine of very good character which takes its leave with a long finish and an aftertaste that has a suggestion of almonds.
