Details for Quinta Sardonia Sardón 2017
Bottle size and vintage
Though it's the most affordable wine they produce, Sardón is a Quinta Sardonia wine through and through. It shares the character of its more well-known siblings and has an extra dose of warmth which makes it an accessible and extremely versatile red wine. It is aged for six months in used French oak barrels and then continues its crianza in 1,200-litre foudres, concrete eggs, and stainless steel tanks. Sardón is produced and aged with the aim of enjoying it from day one without further time in the bottle.
It has a wonderful picota cherry colour, and intense toasted aromas blend perfectly with hints of mint and ripe black fruit. It is a bolder wine in the mouth than on the nose, with a tense acidity and tannins coming forward. It has strong typicity, which is unusual in a wine from this price range. The terroir of Castile and León can be tasted as well as the elegance of excellent Tempranillo wines. A combination of the eminence of a Ribera del Duero, and the depth of a Toro red wine, form an expressive, yet young, red wine brimming with a clear personality.
We suggest serving this wine at 15ºC and allowing it to open up in the glass for full enjoyment of all its nuances.

Excellent modern wine
Excellent modern wine, good body and length. Suttle tannins. I enjoyed it with red meat and cheese to finish. Buenoby: Erkki J/Finlandia (17/11/2017) - Vintage 2014
This wine from Castilla Y Leon shows really thick and dense body of mature dark fruit with nice integrated tannins and alcohol. My favorite in this price category for everyday drinking with beef and casseroles. Goes along with the Jamon and Manchego as well-as by itself...
Today Quinta Sardonia belongs to the Terras Gauda winery group, but the project was initially designed and overseen by Peter Sisseck. In fact, the winery's head technician, Jérôme Bougnaud, has worked with Peter for many years and is a member of the team responsible for viticulture at Dominio de Pingus. Quinta Sardonia maintains a very close link with the Ribera del Duero DO, despite not coming under its sphere because of purely administrative and political reasons at the ...
