The wine

The young red Portia Roble wine is a wonderful example of the ever-more common trend for wines which have only aged for a short time in Ribera del Duero. Grapes are collected from several vineyards located in Roa, Gumiel de Mercado, Sotillo de la Ribera and Villanueva de Gumiel and the wine is then made in the spectacular facilities at Bodegas Portia in Gumiel de Izán (Burgos), the only winery in the world designed by the prestigious architecture studio Foster & Partners. The result is a fruity, intense wine with sweet notes from its brief spell in the barrel.

Made from Tempranillo, a commonly used variety in the region, Portia Roble ages for just 3 months in oak barrels and maintains a clear and bright claret colour. Surprisingly intense and warm aromas delight the nose with notes of wild fruit such as blackberries, blackcurrants, and blueberries as well as toasted hints from the wood. It flows easily with a silky and balanced mouthfeel and well-integrated tannins. Nutty and toasted aromas come to the front with time.

A splendid wine to share with friends or family and an ideal companion for a wide range of dishes including any kind of grilled or roasted meat, fish, shellfish, and rice or pasta dishes. It also pairs wonderfully with thick soups, purées or bean dishes.
