Details for Jean Leon Vinya Palau 2015
Review
A single vineyard wine from these 10 hectares planted with Merlot in 1991, and divided into two areas with different soil compositions. One has calcareous-clay and is compact and deep, with little organic material, enabling wines of great concentration to be produced. The other is sandy with gravel on the surface in part, thus resulting overall in balanced wines of high aromatic expression.
Appearing a cherry-red colour of good depth, the wine reveals a highly intense nose with ripe red fruit notes, integrated into a background of spicy and toasty aromas. Starting with a powerful entry, the palate shows a perfect balance between the fine tannic structure and elegant acidity. A touch of sweetness and plenty of silkiness come through, and the lengthy finish recurs and lingers well.
Aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.
Food pairing
Poultry / Fish / Cod / Magret of duck
