Review
Marcorino is a small, historic vineyard providing the grapes that Cantina del Glicine uses to produce the Marcorino Barbaresco which has made it famous. Located on the top of a hill buffeted by winds, the Nebbiolo vines grow exposed to the south-east and the south-west, sinking their roots into a pale soil, rich in potassium, and giving rise to grapes which mature uninterrupted and in a perfectly healthy condition.
Production of the wine is extremely limited, with around 3,000 bottles, and carried out meticulously by means of artisanal methods. After harvesting by hand and fermentation of the must, the wine spends time maturing in large Slovenian oak casks and medium-toast barrels, for a total of 24 months and under the centuries-old vaults of the underground cellar, undoubtedly among the most picturesque you could find in the Langhe.
The Marcorino Barbaresco appears a classic garnet colour and in the glass imparts notes of red fruits (wild strawberries), pepper and cloves, all underpinned by a balsamic background. A bouquet that's intense, complex and elegant all at the same time.
On the palate, the highlights are the strength of its fine yet firm tannins, its juiciness and tension. Offering a clean, straightforward drink, its quality and refinement are easily appreciated not only by more experienced palates but by newcomers too.
