Corpinnat

Corpinnat: the heart of Penedès sparkling wine

Corpinnat is the collective mark that defines the great sparkling wines of Penedès. It was created to distinguish, protect and promote high‑quality sparkling wines produced in their historical territory, under some of the most demanding criteria of origin, viticulture and winemaking in Europe.

On this page you will find what Corpinnat is, its territory, its quality commitments, the Corpinnat wineries currently available at Vinissimus, and the Corpinnat wines available.

What is Corpinnat

Corpinnat is not a denomination of origin, but a collective brand created by Penedès producers who share the same vision: sparkling wines deeply rooted in their origin, vinified entirely on the estate and conceived as wines with a long ageing potential.

All wines bearing the Corpinnat seal:

  • are made using the traditional method,
  • come from 100% organically grown grapes, hand‑harvested,
  • are vinified and aged entirely on the estate,
  • and focus on long ageing and territorial expression.

The result is a range of gastronomic sparkling wines, precise in style and clearly built for ageing.

The Corpinnat territory

The Corpinnat territory corresponds to the historical heartland of Penedès sparkling wines. Its boundaries are defined by physical factors (topography, soils and climate), as well as historical, cultural and viticultural criteria.

It is a compact area mainly located in the south of the province of Barcelona and a small part of Tarragona, covering municipalities from:

  • Alt Penedès
  • Baix Penedès
  • Anoia
  • Alt Camp
  • Baix Llobregat

A landscape marked by soil diversity, Mediterranean influence and altitude contrasts, all key to the freshness and complexity of these sparkling wines.

Regulations and quality commitments

Corpinnat’s regulations were designed to guarantee quality standards well above the industry average. Key commitments include:

  • Certified organic viticulture
  • Predominant use of local grape varieties
  • Hand harvesting
  • Vinification and ageing entirely on the estate
  • Minimum ageing of 18 months on lees
  • Obligation to market:
  • at least one sparkling wine aged 30 months
  • and another aged 60 months or more
  • Integration of growers into the value chain, promoting fair and stable relationships

Corpinnat thus stands among the most demanding sparkling‑wine projects in Europe.

Corpinnat versus Cava

From a technical perspective, all Corpinnat wines are cavas, understood as sparkling wines made using the traditional method. The difference is legal and structural, not technical.

Corpinnat wineries voluntarily left the DO Cava in 2019 in order to apply stricter territorial boundaries and quality standards that were not accepted within the DO framework.

Corpinnat and Clàssic Penedès

Corpinnat and Clàssic Penedès share a very similar philosophy: organic, high‑quality sparkling wines from Penedès. Differences are mainly technical.

  • Clàssic Penedès requires 15 months minimum ageing
  • Corpinnat requires 18 months, plus additional standards

Both aim to consolidate a strong and specific identity for Penedès sparkling wines.

Dosage and styles

Not all Corpinnat wines are brut nature. Recognised styles include brut nature, extra brut and brut, with other dosage levels allowed in specific cases.

Are there ancestral wines in Corpinnat?

Currently, none of the Corpinnat wineries produce ancestral‑method sparkling wines, although the regulations do not exclude them if all other requirements are met.
