Valdipiatta is the fruit of the labour done by Giulio Caporali and Miriam, a father and daughter who jointly run the winery and tend the 22 hectares of Valdipiatta vineyards. Their wines, in a matter of a few decades, have become established as one of the most compelling expressions of Montepulciano's exceptional terroir.
The Valdipiatta wines are characterised by a strong personality and they frequently require a long period of repose in bottle in order to express their singularity to the full. Their Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is produced from Sangiovese and a small amount of Canaiolo; the wine from these grapes first matures for six months in French oak barrels and is subsequently aged for a year in 50 hl oak barrels.
It offers intense, yet clean and very well-defined aromas, of cherry jam, with notes of dried flowers and leather, dark chocolate and coffee, in a seductive fusion. On the palate it is resolute and balanced; the freshness and liveliness of some very well-integrated tannins presage a long life for this wine.
