Prugnolo gentile

Recent genetic studies on prugnolo gentile have confirmed the thesis that this red berry grape is not a biotype of Sangiovese, but a grape in its own right, certainly related to the other, but typical of the area of Montepulciano, in the lower part of Siena. Prugnolo gentile represents, after all, the lightest, most velvety and ready type of Sangiovese di Montepulciano, with which the great Vino Nobile DOCG is produced. Of excellent acidity and well-integrated tannin, it lends itself to be drunk young - in the guise of Rosso di Montepulciano DOC - but also to long ageing in wood, as in the more selected and aristocratic versions of the Vino Nobile.
