Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker and Jancis Robinson

It’s fascinating to taste the 2010 Romanee-Conti. It is as if all of the preceding wines are subsets of the Romanee-Conti, but in the Romanee-Conti we find all of the qualities that make the other wines so distinctive in one marvelously complete Burgundy. Aromatics reminiscent of Romanee St. Vivant make an appearance, followed by the sweetness that can only be La Tache, then the structure of Richebourg, all wrapped into the total elusiveness of Romanee-Conti. I am reminded of my university studies in music. There are some compositions that are so profoundly moving because they only point out the futility in trying to truly understand them. Some things remain beyond the full grasp of the human intellect. Romanee-Conti is the vinous equivalent. Anticipated maturity: 2030-2060.

NB vintage. A bit more powerful and meaty on the nose than the Tâche. Though drier and less seductive. Massively smooth and polished. A monument rather than a seductress. Respect. He finds this a bit ‘vegetal’ as usual. Amazing that it sells so quickly if he attaches this no-no word to it!

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti

Probably the most prestigious winery in the world, and hence the most expensive as well, and quite a national emblem of France. Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Romanée St. Vivant, Échézeaux, Grands Echézeaux, Montrachet and Corton, the historic collection of this winery's estates comprises exceptional Grands Crus. Two of them are held as monopoles (sole vineyard proprietors) and they are all located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, one of the areas most highly-esteemed...
