Intense ruby red tending to garnet. Noble and austere nose with exuberant notes of spices, licorice and leather. On the palate it is dry, warm, velvety, of great complexity.
Drinking and storing
Still very closed and tannic and, at this time, less complex and pleasurable than the "plain" Ghemme 2008. The typical Nebbiolo aromas and flavours are all there, but struggling to come to the surface, even after being open for two days. If the fruit wins the battle over the tannins (and I think it will), the rating will improve enormously, but only time will tell.
