The wine

Chapoutier Côte-Rôtie La Mordorée 2019 is a sublime expression of Syrah from the northern Rhône, sourced from vines over 60 years old located on the border between the Côte Blonde and Côte Brune. Cultivated according to biodynamic principles, certified by Demeter, this wine faithfully reflects its terroir of chloritic and ferruginous mica schist soils.

The wine is made from destemmed grapes, fermented in concrete tanks at temperatures not exceeding 32°C, using only the free-run juice. It is aged for 14 to 18 months in 225-litre oak barrels, some of which are new.

On tasting, it has a deep red colour. On the nose, it displays aromas of raspberry, violet, spices, black olive and rosemary. On the palate, it is full-bodied, elegant, very well structured and balanced, with silky tannins and a long finish. According to the producer, this wine can be kept for between 30 and 60 years, even 50 to 75 years, depending on the vintage.

Recognised by international critics, it has obtained outstanding scores such as 97/100 from Wine Advocate and 98+/100 from Jeb Dunnuck.

Ideal with game dishes, tender red meats, stews with red wine sauces or mild cheeses.

M. Chapoutier

The Maison Chapoutier lays claim to a family tradition which dates back to 1808, although it wasn't until Michel Chapoutier took control of the company in 1990 that its wines began to stand out, with a very extensive catalogue offering a variety of high quality products. Chapoutier is particularly well-known for its remarkable Hermitage wines; in this appellation, the Chapoutier maison owns its largest tract of wine-producing land, comprising 34 of the 115 hectares held...
