Cellers Unió
On 26th October 1942, Cellers Unió was founded in a great event held in the emblematic modernist Fortuny theatre in Reus (Tarragona).
The 19th century had been a period of great boom of peasant movements in Catalonia. In 1894, the first Catalan wine cooperative was founded, followed by many others. The cooperative movement expanded rapidly, building magnificent modernist-style wineries in its wake. Unió was founded in 1942, 40 years later, to bring together all the farmers in the province who had been part of this movement. Today, more than 75 years later, Unió is an exponent of wine production in Catalonia. But it is something more. It is also an example of support for the rural world, with great involvement in improving the living conditions of farmers and the modernisation and professionalisation of the Catalan agricultural sector.
Cellers Unió has 186 associated cooperatives, 20,000 farming families, 20 associated wine-making cooperatives and 6 wineries of its own. Its 4,400 hectares of vineyards are divided between 5 Designations of Origin (Montsant, Terra Alta, Tarragona, Catalonia and Cava) and one Qualified Designation of Origin (Priorat).
The commitment to the land and its people drives the activity of Cellers Unió. This has been the case for more than 70 years. They believe that the best way to demonstrate this commitment is by making excellent wines that value the work of the farmers and guarantee the sustainability of their environment. Only in this way will they keep alive the spirit of those who for many generations have dedicated their lives to the countryside.
To achieve this objective, they promote sustainable agriculture and continually invest in improving the facilities and equipment of the wineries. At the same time, they offer a response to everything that their associated cooperatives may require, from technical services, advice and training to IT services, legal services, farm management and supplies.
Their firm commitment to their environment, their land and the collaboration with their associated cooperatives allows them to offer high-quality products that achieve customer satisfaction and enhance the value of agricultural production, contributing to its future sustainability.
