There are three ingredients of Mompertone's success. The first is the winery, Prunotto, the Piedmontese property of the Marchesi Antinori. A historic winery in the Langhe, which, under the guidance of Gianluca Torrengo, offers wines whose style is immediate, easy to drink and lively. An everyday Piedmont wine, basically, which is sustainable at an environmental level too. The second ingredient: the grapes. The blend of Barbera and Shiraz produces a fragrant and enveloping wine, which combines in a spectacular and across-the-board way the most classic Italian table grape, with its lively freshness, and the most caressing and persuasive international grape there is. The third ingredient is ageing. Approximately one year in barrels and barriques: so, further roundness and maximum complexity.
An excellent wine for those who want to drink a multi-faceted red wine every day, Mompertone comes from vineyards in the Monferrato area, frown on calcareous, clayey soil, with widespread sandy veins, giving the wine an enveloping taste, characterised by soft and elegant tannins. It has a deep ruby red colour with violet reflections. On the nose it is rich in fruity sensations: notes of plum and cherry combine with hints of violet, spices and coffee. On the palate it is smooth and caressing, rich in soft, fine and persistent tannins.

Non ha nulla dei profumi che mi aspettavo di trovare. Lo trovo acido in modo sgradevole.by: Simon Dance (10 Feb) - Vintage 2016
For the price a first rate wine. Beautifully balanced fruit and acidity goes very well with food. Prunotto is a very reliable maker of top quality wines and this at the cheaper end is no exception - can't wait to get my hands on some more.by: FE (11 Feb) - Vintage 2016
