Viñedos Balmoral

The García Palazón family started farming with Atilano García at the beginning of the 20th century.

His love and dedication to the agricultural world led his sons, José Vicente and Antonio García, to continue their father's devotion. After many years of searching to bring a dream to life, they found the El Moralejo estate, an estate that for centuries has revolved around viticulture. Its greatest potential lies in its altitude, as it reaches an altitude of 1,050 metres above sea level, in a unique enclave in the heart of nature.

If there was one thing they knew for sure, it was that all this had to happen in high-altitude vineyards, where the coolness of the summers and the thermal contrast between day and night would provide the unique character that can be recognised today in all Balmoral wines and sparkling wines. Without losing sight of the fact that altitude will always be in our favour, as global warming is a very present factor, which over the years is expected to change the world panorama of the sector.

It is a fact that what the family did in its day is now a trend, ahead of the times, and that every day we see more and more cases in the media of famous producers acquiring high-altitude vineyards in search of freshness. All this was a revolution in its day, as it meant turning one's back on the accepted rules, championing the challenge of producing at the same level as the best Champagne houses, in a peculiar area, but which, due to its altitude, everything indicated that the chosen path was the right one.

It was then that Jose Vicente and Antonio began a fruitful collaboration with Hervé Jestin, a famous oenologist born in Épernay, France in 1959, with experience in the great Champagne houses. Hervé Jestin has a solid academic background in the world of winemaking, oenology and wine trade in universities such as Dijon, Reims and Bordeaux. He is also a knight of the Order of the Coteaux Champenois and an associate member of the Union des Oenologues de Champagne.

Hervé is recognised as one of the most talented winemakers in Champagne, being one of the world leaders in biodynamics. He has more than 30 years of experience and training in prestigious houses such as Duval Leroy, Bollinger and Moët Chandon.

Nowadays, nobody can deny the potential of Bodegas Balmoral's vineyards, as its wines and sparkling wines have managed to make a name for themselves in more than 30 countries in which they are marketed, in addition to the numerous awards they have received for their efforts and know-how. All this is the result of the values that the winery stands for, such as respect for the environment, using ecological treatments in the vineyard, the search for perfection with a high level of demand, and especially with the unconditional work of the family that dedicates all its time and effort to the growth and improvement of the winery.

The pride of the winery is its vineyards. Cared for all year round under a sustainable viticulture, respecting the biodiversity of the area and with a firm commitment to the protection of the vineyard. A total of 115 hectares of vineyards, with plantations of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Macabeo, Merlot, Tempranillo, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The vineyards are located in a natural setting at an altitude of over 1,050 metres above sea level in Albacete, surrounded by the mountains in their purest state, without pollution, 92 km from the Mediterranean Sea. Thanks to the altitude, they enjoy a great thermal contrast between day and night, and the temperatures in summer do not exceed 30ºC. For this reason, Balmoral is a unique enclave to produce northern European varieties such as Chardonnay or Pinot Noir, the usual bases of the best Champagnes.
