Domaine E. Guigal

E. Guigal is one of the most reputable and historic wine houses in the Rhône. Its lands boast a 24-century history, and three generations of winegrowers and winemakers have carried on the family values and the essence of the terroir to produce some of the world's most prestigious wines. The promise made to the founder, Etienne Guigal, to follow in his footsteps with firmness and determination has been more than fulfilled, and today it is Marcel and Philippe, together with their wives, who are in charge of safeguarding the passion, creativity and effort that have always characterised this firm. At Maison Guigal, they are very clear that the vine is something precious and of great value; not in vain, its fruit has been treated as a treasure by all the great cultures of antiquity. Thus, they work tirelessly to preserve the essence of each old plot of land with the sole objective of enhancing its fruit.

The winery was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis, an old village in the heart of the Côte-Rôtie. From the age of 14, Etienne took part in 67 consecutive vintages, first working for the Vidal-Fleury firm and then for his own winery. In 1961, Marcel Guigal took over the reins of the maison when his father, Etienne, suffered from temporary blindness. In 1975, Marcel and Bernadette's son Philippe was born, who is now the head winemaker of the firm and who, together with his wife Eve, is already the third generation working to maintain the prestige and quality of Guigal wines.

Today, the Guigal family selects, breeds and sells wines from the most renowned appellations of the Rhône Valley. The most exceptional vineyards of Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage grow the fruit from which the firm produces, vintage after vintage, some of the most prestigious and excellent wines in France.
