The wine
When all the letters are added: L'Interdit de Badon – Thunevin. A special cuvée, but “forbidden”, rather than the Clos Badon 2000 it might have been, and labelled accordingly as a non-vintage table wine after falling foul of regulations. In the year 2000, in order to avoid the rains falling just before harvest-time causing even more damage to the grapes, owner Jean-Luc Thunevin decided to protect one of the parcels with some special covering; but this act contravened rules set by the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation.
Its older sibling, L'Interdit de V...D (Château Valtraud 2000) suffered the same fate, but that did not stop it being taken off Thunevin's hands, despite its high price. In fact, 4,000 bottles of each were bottled.
Aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels.
