Sélection de grains nobles
The wines known by the name of Sélection de Grains Nobles or by the letters SGN are a type of sweet botrytised wine, typical of Alsace generally, but also produced in other French regions and French-speaking parts. They’re made from the noble varieties Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Muscat à Petits Grains, and are very similar to the Beerenauslese wines from neighbouring countries with Germanic influence, although normally with a little more alcohol content and less sweetness. As dessert wines they’re delicious. Don’t forget to add a few to your Vinissimus shopping list!
