New to Champagne Rosé? A non-vintage Brut from a major house is the easiest, most reliable starting point. Looking to impress someone who knows their Champagne? A vintage cuvée or a rare older release makes the difference unmistakable.
How Champagne Rosé is made
There are two ways to make a Champagne rosé. The most common, used by most major houses, blends a small amount of still red wine — usually Pinot Noir — into the base white wine before the second fermentation.
The rarer method, rosé de saignée, briefly macerates red grape skins in the juice to draw out colour naturally, without blending in still wine. Saignée rosés tend to be more intense in colour and flavour, and are usually made in smaller quantities by specialist producers.
Choosing by price and occasion
Entry-level (£30–£60): Non-vintage Brut Rosé from major houses like Veuve Clicquot, Moët & Chandon or Bollinger. Reliable, consistent, and the easiest way into the category.
Mid-range (£60–£120): Vintage cuvées and grower Champagnes, such as Pol Roger Rosé Vintage or Larmandier-Bernier's biodynamic Rosé de Saignée. More character, often a specific year on the label.
Prestige (£120+): The top cuvées from each house — Cristal Rosé, Dom Pérignon Rosé, Cuvée Elisabeth Salmon — built for genuine milestone occasions and priced accordingly.
