Umani Ronchi is one of the largest wineries in Marche, the Italian region overlooking the Adriatic Sea. Over 200 hectares and ten different estates are the result of the innovation and investment of a family that has been operating in the area for over fifty years. The history of the winery, founded by Gino and then handed over to the Bianchi-Bernetti family, focuses on the local grape varieties, Verdicchio and Montepulciano.
Together with the modernisation of the cellar, this focus has gradually been accompanied by experimentation with international grape varieties such as chardonnay, sauvignon, cabernet sauvignon and merlot, for the creation of innovative wines comparable with the most excellent world productions.
The most representative wines are still the typical wines of the Marche region, which now boast organic certification for the most part. Among the reds, those based on Montepulciano are always at the top. Obviously the Conero, with the great Campo San Giorgio, persuasive, elegant and caressing, and the Cùmaro, a tribute to Ancona, a taut but velvety reserve. The San Lorenzo is crisper, clearer and more sparkling.
Among the whites, naturally the protagonist is the Verdicchio. Casaldiserra is the classic, elegant, balanced and dynamic white wine from Marche, mineral and subtle. The Vecchie Vigne is taut, juicy and sapid, while the Plenio reserve is fleshier and more sophisticated, fruity but also spicy. It’s pop, but anything but banal, even clean and clear, the Villa Bianchi, a small in-house wine that can compete with its older brothers.
