Domaine Lafage

Domaine Lafage, situated on the outskirts of Perpignan, is the winery run by Jean-Marc and Eliane Lafage, the sixth generation in charge of the family-owned vineyards. The winery's modern-day history began with 36 ha of inherited old vines and gradually extended over very varied corners of Roussillon, where different climates and terrains occur, enabling the winery to produce one of the most complete wine portfolios in the whole of France.

Lying between the sea and the mountains, Lafage incorporates three very specific terroirs: L'Agly (with its black marl terrain, which confers opulence and authenticity to the Muscat, Grenache and Carignan grapes), Perpignan (the Tramontana wind and sea, calcareous soils in an alluvial area, ideal for Grenache Blanc and Gris wines, and for their rosés) and Les Aspres (schist soils, surrounded by low scrubland, the latest vineyard planted on terraces in the Pyrenees foothills).

They harvest the grapes by hand, paying the utmost attention to the vineyard and showing respect to nature in every detail. In the winery, they give the fruit prominence, working with materials such as stainless steel and concrete, and reserving the oak, often in large-sized containers, for the top range wines which can integrate it without its vital aromatic element becoming distorted.

We often find in their wines a profile and characteristics which remind us of wines made on the other side of the Pyrenees, especially those produced in the Empordà DO or even the Priorat, in spite of being further away. As occurs with these neighbouring Catalan wines, the Domaine Lafage wines have always been well known for offering incredible value and pleasure for money which has already won over many consumers and keeps a lot of international critics enthusiastic too.
