Agricola Punica

Agripunica (Agricola Punica) is one of the most promising names in wine production, born from a joint venture between Tenuta San Guido Group, Cantina di Santadi, Cantina president Antonello Pilloni and the legendary Tuscan winemaker Giacomo Tacis. It was he who convinced everyone that fantastic wine can be made from grapes grown in Sulcis.

In 2002 Agripunica acquired a company consisting of two wineries, Barrua and Narcao, located in the southwest of Sardinia, in the area known as Basso Sulcis. Everyone knew what the land was capable of and after the first harvest, it was decided that ..... "This is going to be a fantastic wine!".

The Barrois and Narcao vineyards cover 70 hectares, divided between local varieties and some famous French varieties. The soils are very deep and stony with medium clay content. 

The wines are called I.G.T. Isola Dei Nuraghi, after the ancient stone towers built by the Nuraghi civilization on the island from the Neolithic period until 238 BC, when Sardinia came under Roman rule.

The southwestern tip of Sardinia is an ideal environment for the production of splendid red wines. Winters are mild and summers are hot and dry. The abundance of light allows the grapes to reach such a degree of ripeness that the polymerisation of the tannins begins before the grapes are even harvested. 

The experience of the winery has resulted in two excellent red wines, Barrua and Montessu, and a superb white wine, Samas. These three Agripunica wines are classified as IGT Isola Dei Nuraghi and are produced mainly from the typical Sulcis grape.

The quality of the red Sulcis grapes is excellent not only for the colour, structure and alcohol content of the resulting wine but above all for the softness of its extractive components: from the tannins to the always restrained and elegant acidity.
