Trebbiano di Lugana

Trebbiano di Lugana is a clone of the trebbiano di Soave, in turn identifiable as a clone of verdicchio. Three great grapes... in one. Known in the territory of Lugana, lower Lombardy-Veneto Garda, since the fifteenth century, this vine gives life to one of the noblest white wines in Italy. It is also known locally by the dialectal name of turbiana. It is vinified as a dry white wine, sometimes after an attack of noble rot to which it is quite predisposed, or with ageing of one year in steel on the lees; it also withstands ageing in wood, usually with more vanilla-like results; it is also produced as a spumante, with elevation of its mineral acidity, and passito. A multifaceted wine, Lugana offers a colour spectrum from greenish to golden. On the nose it reveals a range of notes from the most fragrant floral to the richest fruit, from citrus to apple to peach. Often pleasantly mineral, it always retains an exceptional freshness and finesse, which make wines to keep for a long time.
